What factors affect the polishing of plastic molds
Author:
Plastic products are already very common products in production and life, including many industrial products that also use plastic raw materials. Some products have very high requirements for appearance, which requires the mirror polishing of the product mold in the process of manufacturing and processing to be very in place. Plastic mold polishing can not only meet the requirements of product appearance gloss, but also improve the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the product. So the mold polishing on the product is a substantial benefit. So how to do a good job of polishing the mold, what are the specific factors, today we focus on this content.
Factors Affecting Die Polishing
1. Heat treatment process
If the heat treatment is improper, the surface hardness of the steel is uneven or the characteristics are different, which will cause difficulties in polishing.
2, the quality of steel
High-quality steel is a prerequisite for obtaining good polishing quality, and various inclusions and pores in steel will affect the polishing effect. To achieve a good polishing effect, the workpiece must be at the beginning of machining to indicate the surface roughness of the polishing, when a workpiece to determine the need for mirror polishing, must be selected good polishing performance of steel and after heat treatment otherwise not to achieve the desired effect.
3, polishing technology
Yi Shun mold polishing then analyzed for everyone. Since polishing is mainly done manually, human skills are still the main reason affecting polishing quality. It is generally believed that polishing technology affects surface roughness. In fact, good polishing technology should be matched with high-quality steel and correct heat treatment process to obtain satisfactory polishing effect. On the contrary, the polishing technology is not good, even if the steel is good, the mirror effect cannot be achieved.
4. Surface condition of workpiece
In the process of machining, the surface layer will be damaged by heat, internal stress or other factors, and improper cutting parameters will affect the polishing effect. The surface after EDM is more difficult to grind than the surface after machining or heat treatment, so EDM should be used before the end of EDM finishing, otherwise the surface will form a hardened thin layer. If the EDM finishing gauge is not properly selected, the depth of the heat affected layer can reach up to 0.4mm. The hardness of the hardened thin layer is higher than that of the matrix and must be removed. Therefore, it is best to add a rough grinding process to provide a good basis for polishing.
Problems to be paid attention to in manual polishing
With sandpaper polishing should pay attention to the following points:
(1) polishing with sandpaper requires the use of soft wooden sticks or bamboo sticks. When polishing round or spherical surfaces, the use of cork sticks can better match the radians of round surfaces and spherical surfaces. The harder wood, like cherry wood, is more suitable for polishing flat surfaces. Trim the end of the wood strip to keep it consistent with the surface shape of the steel part, so as to avoid the acute angle of the wood strip (or bamboo strip) contacting the surface of the steel part and causing deep scratches.
(2) When using different types of sandpaper, the polishing direction should be changed from 45 ° to 90 °, and the stripe shadow left by the previous type of sandpaper can be distinguished.
Before changing different types of sandpaper, the polished surface must be carefully wiped with a cleaning solution such as 100 percent pure cotton stained with alcohol, because a small gravel left on the surface will destroy the entire polishing work. This cleaning process is equally important when switching from sandpaper polishing to diamond polishing. All particles and kerosene must be completely cleaned before polishing can proceed.
(3) In order to avoid scratching and burning the surface of the workpiece, special care must be taken when polishing with #1200 and #1500 sandpaper. It is therefore necessary to apply a light load and to polish the surface using a two-step polishing method. When polishing with each type of sandpaper, it should be polished twice in two different directions, and each rotation between the two directions is 45 ° to 90 °.
