Liu Jingchuan is the former chief designer of China's first automobile factory. He once participated in the manufacture of the first "liberation", the first "Dongfeng" and the first "red flag" cars. Now nearly 90 years old, he is still quick thinking.
In 1957, talents in the national automobile field were concentrated in Changchun, and FAW's "Jiefang" truck was being debugged. At this time, FAW received a new instruction: to build cars.
"This makes us very worried. There are not enough technicians, there are no sample cars, and the workshop does not know where to find them." Liu Jing legend.
To tap the potential, FAW transferred many college students who had worked for less than half a year but were familiar with the processing technology to the design department to participate in the car design, and several sample cars were also deployed from Beijing. According to the starting policy of "imitation-oriented and independent design", the Chinese began to build cars.
According to Liu Jing's legend, after consideration, FAW Design Office decided to match the engine of Mercedes-Benz 190 with the body frame of a French model, and its appearance was designed independently. During this period of time, the FAW Engineering Building was always brightly lit, and the designers went all out to take apart the parts and carry out surveying and mapping.
In order to catch up with the construction period, Liu Jingchuan led the Chassis Department to eat and live in the workshop. Make a part, label it after inspection and put it aside. After the parts are finished, the assembly is sent to the design department, and the total assembly is carried out in the trial production workshop of the design department.
In the early morning of May 12, 1958, the first "Dongfeng" car was assembled, and Liu Jingchuan became the first passenger of the car. "Dongfeng" opened from the trial production workshop, made a circle around FAW Central Avenue and went out of the south gate. At that time, it was just working time. Both sides of the road were full of people. Everyone was in high spirits and welcomed them.
"At that time, the skilled workers who cooperated with us were so powerful that without them, it would be absolutely impossible to build a car." Recalling the birth of "Dongfeng", Liu Jingchuan said so.
"Look at that Chinese fitter, great!"
When it comes to cars, people think of streamlined body, exquisite logo, complex engine shell ...... and the production of all these key parts is inseparable from the mold.
When FAW first built its factory, the most advanced mold enterprises in China could not produce parts such as spark plugs that needed precision molds. From imitation learning to independent R & D and design, with the development of the times, the level of China's automobile manufacturing has been greatly improved, and the ability of "Autobots" to make molds has become stronger and stronger.
In 2000, at an international skills competition held in Shenyang, the inspection of the die assembly of the fitter group involved the measurement of hundreds of sizes, with more than 80 mating surfaces. 121 workers from many countries around the world competed on the same field, and the examination time was seven and a half hours.
Ten minutes before the end of the competition, the mold of Li Kaijun, a mold fitter of FAW Casting Company, was basically formed. "The Russian worker in front of me looked back at my mold and gave me a thumbs up." Li Kaijun said that only four people had finished the mold after the match. Li Kaijun won the runner-up.
